Baking Tips And Tricks - Part 1 (BASICS)

Just follow these tips and tricks and you are good to go😋


  • The most important thing in baking is the measure of ingredients
  • A measuring scale will give the most accurate measure, but a set of measuring cups and spoons is more than enough for beginners
  • Always measure the ingredients before you start baking                          
  • When measuring dry ingredients spoon them into the measuring cup and use a knife to level the ingredient
  • When measuring butter spoon the butter to the measuring cup and firmly press the butter into the cup, make sure there are no air pockets

  • Always preheat your oven for at least 10 min because it ensures that your cake bakes evenly 
  • Try keeping your cake in the center of the oven for even circulation of air 
  • Only open the oven door to check on your cake after 3/4th of the time is over, if you open it earlier the cake may sink in
  • There are ovens of all sizes and models and each one is different in temperature, so don't forget to adjust the settings according to your oven

  • A cake that doesn't come out of the tin is a nightmare for all of us, so to ensure that you have a perfect shaped cake you should always grease the tin with softened butter and dust it with flour
  • Another thing we can do is to line the baking tin with butter paper or parchment paper

  • Don't forget to check if your cake is baked or not 
  • You can do so by inserting a toothpick or skewer into the center of the cake and if it comes out clean your cake is ready. But if it has wet batter on it you will have to bake it for a few more minutes
  • You should never stick a cold knife into a hot cake

  • Always cool the cake in the wire rack which comes with the oven
  • Don't keep the cake upside down on the wire rack as it will leave lines on your cake

  • Let the cake cool completely before you put any sorts of icing or glaze on top as it may lead to the melting of the whipped cream or buttercream frosting
  • It is advised to refrigerate the cake overnight so that it will be easy to decorate the cake, don't forget to cover the cake with cling wrap before refrigerating it otherwise the cake will become very dry

If you follow all these tips given above, the cakes you bake will come out perfectly
